I'm in a state college and I had just finished my final test for the semester when my mom called to tell me she'd been fired the day before. Something about the government taking too long to send in some kind of update on her papers (My mom wouldn't explain it to me, but I know we're legal immigrants. We've lived in the US since 2006) made her employer "nervous." She says they plan to wait until the government sends in those papers before hiring her back, but at a minimum wage again. She's given them 6yrs and A+ service to get to the $11/hr, and they want to take that from her. She says she'll get a new job, but I've been watching my dad try to do just that for the last five years and he's had no success.
I'm scared because we already signed a $600 lease for an apartment just a few blocks from my college. My parents wanted me in a safe neighborhood since they and my little sister are moving to NY next year (my sister has some mental health issues they can get help for there). Both my parents keep telling me not to worry, but how can I? I'm not a strong student, so I cant really ride on scholarships to help pay for tuition (even when I'm applying for 10 or so a month). I have just under $4k in savings. I'm scared to take out loans, but I have no marketable skills outside of working at McDonald's. I don't want to be a burden on my parents.
Please help. Idk what to do. My mood's been down all day because of this.
