I found out last week that my uncle had died. He was fairly estranged from his family, and it's been 10 years since I'd last met him. He was diagnosed with cancer, didn't want anyone to know, and died within a month, around age 72.

His entire life, he'd worked at the Safeway store in his home town. He put in his 30 years, never made more than $34,000/year, and retired with his pension. No wife, no kids.

My folks are going through his things now. It turns out that so far they've determined his net worth is over two million dollars, and that's not counting the value of his pension. He had a couple of condos, and other items, and they haven't gotten to his safety deposit box yet.

So from this, I'm throwing out two lessons for everyone to see.

Lesson #1: It is possible to save up an amazing amount of money, while not making a lot. Our family is quite financially literate, and this just goes to show you. Read The Millionaire Next Door.

Lesson #2: Enjoy life while you can. It's a shame that he got taken so soon, and that he didn't get to enjoy the fruits of his labor. You can't take it with you, so once you've achieved your goals - have some fun!

That's all. Have a great day.

Throw away account, which means it'll probably go to the front page.
