I have a 2x6 attic floor that is decked with plywood for storage. I would like to add more room for insulation, and retain the ability to store stuff up there. I just keep random boxes of stuff up there, nothing heavy. To do this I am planning on taking the plywood off and adding new 2x6's perpendicularly on top of the existing framing, then putting the plywood back on.I am totally new to framing, so does anyone have any suggestions or resources to check on what the spacing should be for my new 2x6's? I was thinking 16"oc, but obviously would be happy to do 24"oc and save money and time if that wouldn't harm the integrity. Do these need to be joined together - if so, at what interval?
