I'm currently in my early 30s, and have been putting money into company sponsored 401k's for almost a decade.
For awhile it seemed I was making good returns in investments, allocations made sense, there were broad options to invest into...
These days, I'm checking my returns and I'm getting around 2% return. My choices of types of investments have shrunk and to me are less than ideal. Finally, the management company handling the 401ks for have switched so many times I'm losing track of where my retirement accounts are....
So, I'm considering reaching out to a financial planner, if that's even what they would be called, review the state of my 401k's, and consider shifting 401ks to a company of my choosing for longer term stability, and to give myself more options. However, if I pull out of any company sponsored 401k I won't be getting that % match.
I guess I was curious to know if anyone has suggestions on this. Are there particular types of financial planners I should look for? Where should I look? What should I expect? If I want to try rolling my own, are there specific companies that I should be looking at? Vanguard, Schwab, Voya, etc come to mind for example.
Thanks in advance.
