My debit card just came in the mail, after I requested to be sent a new card after a couple of fraud charges on my previous one. I have not yet activated the card, but I noticed what looks like light graphite shading or ink stains over where the card was sitting in the envelope. I'm not sure of the process of making the card, but I know some pigment must be used to add designs and such to the card. Maybe I'm paranoid, but it looks like someone tried to place a small piece of paper over the envelope and make an imprint of the card information. Not sure how scientific this is, but the residue erases with a standard pencil eraser.
Should I play it safe and request a new card again?
Edit: I called my bank and asked if this was something common, and made sure that they put a note on my account that detailed my concerns of whether the number was stenciled. I'm going to use this card for the next week, until I can drive two hours to the nearest location for a new card in person. Until then, I'll monitor the card to make sure that no fraudulent activity takes place. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
