My school and work are both approximately less than 7km from me. I can get to both places by taking just one bus (from home) which costs $3 (one way). Bus stops are approximately 1-2 minute walk away from my house, school and work. If I uber to school, it would cost me $10 and to work, it would cost $14. Now, sometimes, I get a $5 dollar coupon from uber because i use it regularly, so i get 5 dollar off in every ride, say for about one to two weeks then the coupon expires. I don't exactly know how the coupon thing works, but sometimes i get another coupon after that so I keep getting $5 off for weeks which makes my uber rides a lot cheaper.
I'm 20 years old, I live in Canada and winter is coming. I hate commuting in winter. I hate commuting in general and I love driving. The only car that i'm considering buying is a 2014 Mazda 3. I have a private driveway and there's a public parking nearby my school and work, so parking fair is not a factor. I know insurance will be high for me, but I don't know about gas and maintenance.
If I use uber and bus as my main transportation, would it be a lot cheaper than owning a car? Is it better in my situation to just take an uber and/or bus since my work and school aren't too far from where i live?
