The classic example is hanging your laundry on a line rather than using the dryer. The clothes last longer (think of all the lint), and you don't have to pay for the electricity. (Plus I like the smell of clothes dried on the line.)
But there a lots of little ways to be frugal. I take a new bar of soap out of the wrapper and let it sit on a shelf for a month before I use it. Dried soap lasts much longer than new, moist soap. By the way, when it gets so small that a bar of soap is annoying to use, use all of your strength to press it onto a new bar that you wet down. They will stick together. Problem solved.
I use a shoe horn to put on my shoes so they don't break down at the heel.
Rather than buying books or movies, borrowing them from the public library.
When I cook on the stove, I always put a lid on the pot to make it cook faster saving fuel.
Instead of paying for a repair, I barter for some of my time/skills. Once I wanted a new set of tires and took in a plate of hot, homemade chocolate chip cookies and got the best deal imaginable.
I tried to cut my own hair, but that was disaster. I had to rethink that one.
On a sarcastic note, birth control is sooooo much cheaper than raising a kid.
What small things do you do to be frugal? I want to learn from you.
