I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm asking this for my dad. He's got a tile project that he wants to do and is trying to figure out the best way to go about starting it.So, to set the scene, there's an area that's about 3.5 feet square that had parquet flooring on it. The carpeting(cheap-looking apartment carpeting that was in every room) was torn out to expose hardwood flooring in, for its age(~50yrs), pristine condition. This parquet was also torn out because it was found that the hardwood flooring extended beneath that as well. The problem: the adhesive from the parquet flooring has caused some incredibly unsightly damage to the hardwood, to the point where it would probably have to be sanded and refinished, but dad does not want to do this because he likes the aged look of the floor. The plan: he wants to wholly remove, down to the structural slat flooring(I'm sure there's a name for it, apologies that I don't know it off the top of my head), then add back whatever is required for it and replace the 3.5ft² area with ceramic tiles and have them be flush with the rest of the undamaged flooring. The question, finally: what would be the best way to go about removing an area of flooring without damaging or compromising the rest of it? If it helps, I had him send me a couple of pictures of the area in question. I've looked around online, but most of what I found seems to only go over wholesale removal via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2yB6X1Z
