Hi PF!
I've been offered a job at 1.5 the pay I have now with a much better career path. This is in line with what I want to be doing in the future but a friend is vouching for me to get me in earlier than expected. I wanted to have a few certifications and touching up on what I'm uncomfortable with. I was expecting to apply a few months out from now but they had openings so I interviewed last week, which went pretty bad in my opinion, but was offered the position today.
However, I have a few concerns:
1) It is a MUCH more difficult job and I haven't had adequate time to bring myself to the point I wanted to be at before applying.
2) The times are a bit wonky for my personal schedule. I could maybe adjust but it would be earlier than I've ever had a job before, with the possibility of having to work either swing or overnights later.
3) I'd be leaving my comfy albeit boring and dead end job.
I'm concerned that I'm not quite ready for this big of a jump and failing. If I do, my current position doesn't have a lot of transferable skills and I'm afraid that if everything falls through, I'll end up in a worse position than I am now.
Should I decline and take some time to brush up on what I need to make myself more prepared and wait for another opening? Without being too specific, it's like a call center 2.0 so there probably will be openings down the line. Or am I passing up something that might leave a bad taste in the manager's mouth and pull me out of the running for a future position?
EDIT
Thank you all for the wonderful words...I talked it over with my family and the friend I mentioned and I'm going to call back tomorrow and accept. I appreciate all the advice and support here so so much :) It really gave me the confidence I needed!
