I have done a bit of electrical... as a homeowner... and thought I could probably not kill myself doing most projects. Tonight I learned otherwise. I am prepping my basement to paint the ceiling. 100+ year old house. There is a lot of old wiring that goes to nowhere that I wanted to get rid of before I paint. One wire led outside to where I thought an old AC unit used to be... I tested the wire with a Fluke VoltAlert which I have used on a few outlets and light fixtures and it has always been accurate. I literally tested a live wire next to the wire in question and it showed it to be live... and my wire dead. I went to cut the wire and it arced. I tested again and still my arcing wire was supposed to be dead. What am I missing here? Thanks for helping me not die. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2zkLpGX
