We're building a new bathroom in our basement, and the bathroom sits on concrete flooring that is a combo of both new patch work and original floor. The floors were previously sealed, both the old and new. The sealant is on pretty thick and it's fairly cured in.We're wanting to put in self leveling underlayment, and the best reviews pointed to TEC Self Leveling Underlayment.I've read the instructions, and the first step is to apply the primer. The primer has to be diluted in various parts depending on the surface type. Here's the dilemma, the instructions say for porous concrete, it should be able to absorb water droplets in 15-30 seconds. Even after several coats of stripping agent, and hard hand sanding with a wire brush between coats, the surface is still non-porous. Both new and old concrete sections. I'm not sure how I can strip this concrete down any further without serious power tools. (we even tried an angle grinder to no avail). I've used a floor polisher with the concrete prep tool, and I don't think that would work well here in our situation due to the open framed walls and rough-in electric/plumbing.I'm trying to decide if I should put any more effort into prepping the floor to make it porous when it's already seemingly stripped as clean as we can get it. I'm not sure if any other chemicals would help, etc.The primer's instructions say you can put it on non-porous substrate, just not to dilute it as the water wouldn't be absorbed.Should I just screw prepping the floor any more and treat it like a non-porous substrate? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2RdgTWW
