Many of the ultra low cost carriers in the US charge a “carrier interface charge” as one of the fees on their tickets. Unlike more traditional airlines this particular fee can make up a large portion of the overall price of your ticket. Especially on promotional fares it can be up to 90% of the total cost. The fee is charged for booking online or over the phone. However if you go to the airport and buy the ticket directly from the ticket counter you are not charged this fee and you end up with an incredibly cheap ticket.

To find out how much you will save go to the airlines website and pick your flight. Then click on the fees and taxes to reveal the breakdown and identify the carrier interface charge or passenger usage charge or similar. Subtract this from the total to get the price you will pay at the airport.
