Forgive me if I’m in the wrong place, but my grandparents are at the point in their lives where they are cashing everything out and want to give a portion to my sister and I. They want to give us each $10,000 for school or a new vehicle. I looked up and read about gifts up to certain amounts, but when they asked their lawyer he said no. Are we missing something? None of us are well versed in laws and taxes, and my grandparents know next to nothing. I just want to make sure their kindness to us doesn’t come back and bite them.
