So, my grandmother is extremely ill and it is looking like she is in her final days/weeks. I got word from my older sister that our grandmother will be leaving us a nice sum of money instead of my Mom. Reason is my Mom was/is an alcoholic and for most of our lives she lived off her Mom financially. My grandmother does not trust my Mom with her money so instead told my sister that she will split it between us and we have the option to give what we want to my Mom.

So I am not familiar with how this all works, but I know my Mom is going to be absolutely furious. She has already been talking about how she is expecting to get a lot of money after my grandmother's passing. What kind of legal action can she take against us (if any) and what kind of power over the amount left for me will I have? I have never been left anything from a relative before.
