US citizen, spent the last 8 years working in China. Last year I fired my employer and began doing work online--mostly for US clients. Without an employer to sponsor my visa, I now hop around on tourist visas usually between China, Thailand, and home to the US 1 or 2 months for Christmas.
Living in Asia most of the year, my monthly expenses are low, only about $1.5-$2k, and my income is roughly $3k-$4k/mo. Being self-employed I've made sure to put aside a comfortable savings account with about 10 months of life expenses if I ever needed them. The way things are going, I reckon I could grow my savings account to $50k over the next 2-3 years. I have no debt and a pretty good credit score.
So I'm looking for other ways to save & invest my money. I like the idea of buying a house or land back home (but not living in it right now). I'd love to establish some passive-income sources, and also set aside something long term like retirement.
Final note: I'm uninsured and have been basically forever. Medical care here is pretty cheap so I just pay out of pocket whenever something comes up.
Appreciate any advice I can get! I know my situation is a little unusual so most of the cookie-cutter financial advice online doesn't seem to fit exactly.
