Hi everyone! I am 19 and currently in my junior year of college. I have a job and live at home with my family and fiancé. My fiancé and I collectively make about 600 biweekly. I have a car payment that takes away more than half of my paycheck, but I absolutely must have a car because I would have no way to get to work and school without it. It is expensive but it is built to last so I am willing to make it work. I will be hopefully getting a new job in a few months where I will be making a few hundred dollars more a paycheck. Right now, my BIGGEST issue is food. I have a serious food addiction that I am working on, but in the past, I have been known to spend thousands of dollars on food just for myself in a matter of weeks (no I’m not exaggerating, unfortunately. That money had come from savings.) I have now recognized my food addiction and like I mentioned, I am working on it. I need to learn how to save more money and learn how to be frugal. After my car payment, I have about $100 left for the next two weeks. Other than my car payment, I have no other bills. I am incredibly fortunate and thankful for my family being able to help me, but I think it’s time that I repay them and start becoming financially independent. I especially want to do this before I get married. So, where do I start?!
