Big steps towards living more simple are in the works! We are in the process of moving out into the country on 5 acres my hubby inherited. There is already well water and septic, and electric nearby. Have been working on getting a road built over the past few months as money and time allowed.
We were unsure about type of housing to get out there and have been weighing options and keeping our eyes open. But, after putting the word out, were able to find a free single wide mobile home if we would just move it. Will only have to move it 6 miles, meeting with the mover later today to see what all we will need to have done to the road and land to make it passable and get pricing quote.
The home is 14x60, made in the 70's 2 bdrm 1 bath, and needing a bit of work, but the floor and roof are sound, I can work with that. Spent the day cleaning on it and measuring window replacements.
After we get the home liveable will sell current mobile home. Will finally be paying only land taxes once a year for a place to live, taxes in our state are cheap, $14 an acre last year.
Plan to start a garden, hunt, and learn preserving. The home will be sitting in a much more shaded area than we are in now, which will help with electricity usage. Square footage will be smaller, but with son leaving for college, there is only my hubby and me at home, so that's okay.
The move will combine all that I want to live more simply: smaller living, less consumption, living cheap, less noise from town living, and ability to grow and hunt on our land. Will be 8 miles from town, hubby's commute is 10 minutes, I go to school online.
I've been dreaming for years of being able to do this. Still need to pinch myself and make sure I'm not dreaming.
