(Sorry if this isn't the best place to post this :( I just don't know a better sub for the question)

Husband and I are in the process of (first-time) buying new furniture for our apartment - we're looking for a couch, and after looking all over the place we've decided on a two-piece sectional (shaped like an "L...." The only problem is that all theses couches are so firm! We asked an associate at one store, and we were told it's because these couches are for support when sitting, and not for laying down.

Are all new couches so firm and uncomfortable? Does this go away with time? Are there "softer" brands?"

Price-wise, my budget is $500-$1000, and while I don't mind spending extra money, I want to really reap the value of what I'm buying. I've seen couches of similar quality go for $600 at the lowest all the way up to $3000.

How do I know when I'm getting the best deal or when I'm just paying premiums?

Thanks in advance!
