A year ago a older female cat fell into my lap. She is a darling and I'll happily support her for the rest of her life. Much cheaper than therapy. She came with some dental issues that got resolved by the adoption agency under my supervision - so she's missing a few teeth. This was almost a year ago.

But, lately she's been sick to her stomach quite often right after eating. I've been reading and it seems like a first good step is high-quality pet food with limited ingredients (e.g. actual meat as first ingredient, no additives, etc.) I'm divided on this, because consumer reports says that basically most pet foods are the same (and simultaneously discloses that the experts they consulted receive funding from large brands). At the same time, I am hesitant to switch her over to something homemade at her age.

I've priced out some brands and we're looking at $~3/can, which is $3/day. That's enough to make me want to post here and see what other considerations people have made. Her current brand is ~0.50/day.

Limitation: I should say I'm located in Canada, so buying online from an American supplier is almost certainly out of the cards. Seeing a vet in this country is likely to cost several hundred dollars for the visit + tests, and from what I'm reading they'll generally tell you to try what I'm thinking about here.

Open to any and all ideas at this point.
