Basically the title. Mom lost her key. Dealership charges $300+ just to order a new one from Italy. A month goes by and the key arrives. They're demanding $700+ to have the key calibrated to actually work with the car.
We don't have the money, and they say if we don't pay up they'll tow the car out of the dealership and we won't be allowed to have it back unless we give the towing company money, too.
Even if we do get the car back, it won't work.
They're refusing to give her a rental car to use in the mean time too, which means she has to uber to work every day (except for days that I can help out).
Is this SERIOUSLY how expensive it is just because she lost a key? We're lost. Is there anything we can do to make this affordable? (other than taking up a second job or selling a bunch of our stuff?)
She owns the car, too, if that's important.
