Hi guys, I purchased a tv mount that has a wall-facing plate that measures 5.8” x 17”, you’re supposed to secure this to wall studs spaced 16” apart with 4 x 2.5” x 1.25” lag bolts, one in each corner of the plate. I want to mount this over my mantle, which has a big wood beam (5” tall x 3” thick) running horizontally above it ~2ft above. I have no concerns that the beam is solid and will be able to hold the weight of the mount and tv, but the problem is the beam is only 5” tall so I won’t be able to put lag bolts in all 4 corners because the vertical bolt spacing would not leave a comfortable amount of wood to secure the lag bolts. My question is: would it be safe to attach the mount using all 4 bolts along just the top edge of the mount (bolts would be in a horizontal line) instead of one in each corner? My second idea was to build a plywood backplate, mount the tv mount to that, then mount the plywood to the wall, but I’m having trouble figuring out how thick the plywood should be and what type/size screws I should use to secure the mount to it, any recommendations? My tv is ~42” @ 25 lbs. Mount is a full articulating mount rated for 90lbs via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ohs6cF
