Long time lurker, first time poster here. Sorry if this is already well-known.
I recently stopped eating bread and started making porridge for breakfast every day instead. Originally I just made the change for health reasons, but when I noticed the price difference I was absolutely shocked by how much money I could've saved over the last year. Just for comparison: Half a loaf of bread costs about €1.50-€2 here and lasts for around 3 days, you also pay at least as much for everything you put on it. On the other hand, a 500g package of oatmeal costs €0.40 and is enough for 10 portions of porridge. That's literally €1.20 for a whole month's worth of breakfast. And it doesn't get boring either, it tastes great with yoghurt, bananas, berries, basically all kinds of fruit, even nuts. You can also vary the recipe by swapping out some or all of the water for milk.
