I am trying out sleeping on the floor for minimalism and a better health for my back. My preference is side sleeping, but I am trying to switch to back sleeping. I use sleeping mask and earplugs every night. It has been 5 days.

First three nights I tried Lightspeed Outdoors 3" Delxue Sleep Pad and switched over to Klymit Static V Luxe Sleeping Pad with cotton sheet over it for breathabillity. The first one was heavy and difficult to compress and thus not portable, although it was cooler on the surface and more uniform support.
I prefer sleeping pad over Japanese Futon for ease of cleaning and maintenance, although I haven't given it a try, I don't think it would be that much different.

I use a pillow under my knee, which helps me to fall asleep faster, but when I wake up, I still feel discomfort on my lower back and hip areas. On a positive note, I can notice that I am sitting and standing more upright.

The quality of sleep is pretty bad. I just wake up in discomfort. I switch to side sleeping for a bit to fall a sleep and then I come back to back sleeping. This probably happens 2-3 times. Then I wake up about two hours earlier than I normally would and I have to catch up with a nap. Overall, I think it ate up two addition hours / day of my time because I was just lying in bed or feeling tired.

Someone mentioned that it took them 3-4 weeks to adjust to a proper position. I am willing to take risks for three more weeks but I was wondering at what point I should consider it unsuitable for me. Do you have an experience of giving up?
