I checked the recent consumer reports and front loaders were quite significantly rated better than top loaders. Even for reliability. Which seemed to contradict what I've found when searching on here..
I've had good luck following CR recommendations but now I'm unsure when it comes to a front loader washer. Same with LG (they rate them highly, but on here they're usually railed against)
