Can anybody recommend any books to read around the subject of simple living? I'm not necessarily talking about non-fiction (though feel free to discuss those here too); I was inspired to write this post as I am currently reading Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry, which outlines a rural life in the mid 20th century.
I would also include in this genre/sub-genre:
- Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson
- Growth of the soil by Knut Hamsun
- Independent people by Halldor Laxness
- We took to the woods by Louise Dickinson Rich
- Winter: Notes from Montana by Rick Bass
- The hills is lonely by Lillian Beckwith
(I can recommend all of the above, by the way - I have, to a good extent, enjoyed them all)
