This might be a brick of text, so a TL;DR will be at the end of this.
Background info: I have a WF credit card with a limit of $7500, my FICO score is 710 as of two days ago, I use this card solely for large purchases. Don't ask me why or point me to better cards please, I know WF sucks.
Anyways, I purchased an item on eBay a few months ago for just over $1000. Following this purchase, my balance on this card was $7300, so close to maxed out. eBay took my money, item never shipped, seller got banned. Classic eBay scam. I disputed this with Wells Fargo, the dispute was ruled in my favor, case was marked closed, and $1000 in credit was issued to my account pretty quickly.
About a month and a half passes by, refunded amount is still sitting there available for use. I decided to retry buying this same item, paid for it and got it three days later no problems at all.
Maybe four or five days pass, and WF starts calling me. I found that odd, so I check my account online and see that I am $1000 over my credit limit and my balance is $8500.
Almost two months after deciding in my favor and closing the dispute, WF decided to reverse this entirely and reapply the balance. I cannot re dispute this, I cannot seem to get a hold of anyone who can tell me anything but "Your next payment of $1093 is due on August 22nd!" I spoke with the fraud department (allegedly) who told me this case was already closed and decided and told me nothing more (even though it's apparently been "forwarded" to them.)
I cannot afford to pay an $1100 CC payment this month. I also really don't want to give WF a free $1000 that they shouldn't be getting, and that they're demanding immediately.
But, here's the best part -
I got an email yesterday stating that this case, which was previously closed, has now been "Forwarded to the Fraud Department" and my account has been temporarily closed until this is resolved. The email told me my card number is now invalid and to just cut up my card, and they will give me more info after the resolution of this investigation.
I would really hate to impact my credit negatively at this point, but I am pretty much dead set on not paying this $1100 bill I owe this month. I will gladly pay over my minimum, but not four figures.
Any ideas on how to go about handling this? I've heard WF has a bad habit of closing accounts involved in a dispute or two.
TL;DR Disputed $1000 transaction after getting scammed on eBay, won dispute, spent $1000 to re purchase product, Wells Fargo then reverses my dispute and I now owe $2000 for a $1000 item.
