Sorry for these newbie questions. I've been putting off asking these questions because I was afraid and everything is overwhelming. I don't know where to start...
Like the title said, I'm 26 and from California. I never had a job before. I'm currently job hunting right now since I just finished college. I do Twitch streaming and qualified for the affiliate program. If I accept, I can start making some passive money on the side in addition to whatever job I find part-time or not.
Thing is. I never had a job before, so I don't know anything about Taxes. There's information online, but I don't know where to start. Especially since I'm trying something out of the norm with streaming online (y'know versus a normal job)
I'm overwhelmed and scared to accept my Twitch Affiliate invite because my parents never taught me about taxes. I'm frightened because I know Taxes can be a delicate matter. I'm scared of going to jail for tax evasion just because I didn't know the system. I'm scared of screwing up and making a mess. I wish there was a class that taught all this...
First, How do you even learn about taxes? Do I have to learn EVERYTHING? or is there just basics?
What are the requirements to even do tax things? Make a certain amount?
My parents are no help. Is it worth paying a lot of money to an Accountant to ask for simple things?
Are there classes that people offer to learn the requirements of it?
For people like me, that's going to potentially make money on Twitch as a streamer. They're making me filling out information about tax stuff.
Are there different tax rules I have to abide by since I'm in California? Different tax rules if I'll be a Twitch Streamer?
How are things like PayPal donations/tips gonna factor in terms of taxes? I got $15 from donations. Do I have to keep that in mind?
For the tax questions in regards to streaming, I don't expect to make a lot of money (if ANY money at all), but just in case things blow up whether if I get popular and get so much subscriptions or some random kind soul donates like $1000, I just want to be prepared and cover my bases. Twitch pays out for ever $100 that I make. So like I said unless surprises happened, I most likely won't see any money from Twitch for a few months.
