We are doing a bit of renovation on the house right now. We removed a door that led into the kitchen and the deck walkway that led to the door. Under the deck was probably the original cement pad that acted as a step into the house. We want to remove this pad so that we can widen our driveway. I could see the block that make up the base of the pad was not connected into the foundation of the home. So today I took a sledge to the pad and smashed it. Once open I found this. The pad is dug out to the depth of our basement. With 3 walls made up of block, none of it tied into the foundation. Does anyone have an idea of why it would have been dug to the depth of the rest of the foundation? Is there any real purpose for this. Does anyone see issues with taking out the top few feet of blocks and then filling in the rest of the hole with dirt?If you know of any other subreddits that I could post this to for ideas I would be very thankful.https://ift.tt/2LJ5xrq via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2A0t1XA
