This might not go very smoothly on this subreddit but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to share my story.
For the longest time, I wanted to buy a nice watch. (Why? Craftsmanship, history etc) Now I won’t be the last to admit it, but it was a VERY dumb purchase as well as a VERY freeing one. Now, let me explain.
While dropping 1k, 10k or 1M on a watch isn’t smart in terms of investments, it does have its benefits in a non-financial aspect. After finally purchasing one, I’ve noticed I’ve been more willing to save and enjoy my money after savings. Why you might ask? Well because the looming thought of when I can purchase the watch is off my head, sure a GIC, a ETF or even a stock I let my dog pick would do better, however, sometimes our own mind is more important than an investment.
So I’m not saying, if you make 50k a year, to buy a Lamborghini tomorrow, but if you really want something and it isn’t going to ruin you financially, AND you’ve thought about it and consulted others regarding it, go and do it, stop thinking about how much money you could make elsewhere, do it! It will be liberating. Like breaking free from chains you didn’t realize existed.
Peace
