I was having a hard time removing hard water deposits from my oil rubbed bronze bathroom hardware, so I poured a little Lysol Lime & Rust toilet bowl cleaner on them. The main ingredient is 9.5% Hydrochloric acid, according to the label. What could go wrong? On the spots where the water deposits were, it starting foaming and dissolving the bronze finish.... leaving beautiful, shiny copper. I doused all of the hardware in the toilet bowl cleaner to try and strip the rest of the finish off, but it only came off in the areas with water deposits.I've searched the web and found plenty of articles on how to restore oil rubbed bronze, but nothing on how to take off the finish. Looking for a non-abrasive way to remove the rest. I'm guessing the hydrochloric acid combined with some mineral in the hard water deposit to dissolve the finish. Anyone have any experience or insight?Photos for reference via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2MXLJAU
