Me rambling on about two big credit card transaction that were supposed to save & make me $$ tomorrow, causing me trouble today.
Transaction #1 - brand new state of the art, hvac system for our childcare facility. Energy efficient, energystar rated, good stuff. Had to be financed. Paid in two installments, 1) down payment before, 2) final payment after. Was told by installation consultant if financing wasn't approved by deadline for down payment, we can pay out of pocket (credit card) and amount will be refunded ounce installation company gets confirmation that bank thats financing will pay project in full. which is what happened, install can't begin without down payment. So the loan was approved - yay - but after down payment. Now its time to get that down payment refund bc the APR on that credit card is high. I tell the bank loan manager this and his response is "no, that's not our normal process, they need to reverse the credit card payment before we pay in full" Whaaaaaahh huh? So what the consultant told me was a shortcut, that shouldn't be done?? Now I'm panicking "was it a scam? Nooo, the installation was done very well, authentic parts, works the way it was advertised." "Will we get that payment back?" "Did I just pay for something twice?" "Am I supposed to get the refund from the bank or the installers?" Then came the realization that I was misinformed or misunderstood the "shortcut" and now at the mercy of a credit card reversal.
Advice please: how does a credit card reversal work? Within what timeframe from purchase date?
Transaction #2 - bought equipment for childcare facility at a great price (20-30% cheaper depending what site I'm comparing). Was sent the wrong smaller model. To return, item has to be in original box and packaging material, which i get, but customer has to pay return shipping. This thing weighs 100lbs!!! Customer service isnt availablle until monday so im ranting here. The cost of return shipping might be more than the amount i saved originally.
Tldr: I do all this research looking for the best buying options but things go wrong and it feels like I saved nothing. First misunderstanding led to a credit card reversal, questions about the process. Second misunderstanding led to an annoying return process. Just my luck
