I have around few thousand in a Capital One investing account. I simply purchased some Dow and Vanguard stock and left it. I know nothing about investing and just though I’d see what would happen. In has grown a bit over the last 8 years. Now, Capital One sent out an email saying that in its transition to E*Trade later this year, fractional equity shares in your account must be sold by August 8. If I consent to liquidation, no other action is needed. If not, I must close my account and transfer it to another broker dealer, which will require that fractional shares are liquidated.
What on earth does this mean. I literally have no understanding of investments and simply signed up to play around 8 years ago and haven’t touched it since. Please help me understand my options and the consequences.
