Hi guys, this subreddit has been really helpful and all around stellar in helping me fix things up around the house. Anyways, gonna cut straight to the chase. We renovated our house all the way back in 2005, we used to have carpets on our floor but due to allergies we ripped it up and installed hardwood floors. It's been over a decade and these things have taken a hell of a beating, honestly the pictures are a little gruesome. It hasn't occurred to anyone to really fix them up, but I have a month off and I plan on getting a lot done around the house. I've watched several videos so far, seems to be a straight forward process of sanding along the grain with different grits, and then dusting and applying an oil/water based finisher (I'm not sure which one to use over the other.) Thing is I'm still in school so I'd like to keep my costs to a minimum, if it's absolutely necessary I'm willing to go to Home Depot and rent one of the big sanding machines with 3 orbital rotating thingiemagingies, but I was wondering if a hand held sander would suffice (there is a good portion to sand but I'm willing to do it by hand if it'll save me a good amount of money.) Here's one of the hand-held sanders I've been eyeing recently. (https://ift.tt/2LnUqbc, I'm kind of confused regarding the finisher on whether to use oil/water based ones and how to apply it. The general vibe I'm getting is to use a paint brush, or one of those dry mops with a wool applicator pad. It'll be my first time doing a project this big but I'm confident I can get it done with ease. There's also a picture of the white tiles in my kitchen, any idea on how to replace those? They're cracked and just all around nasty, I'd rather replace them then fix them but I wouldn't know where to start. Thanks for all the help guys!Pictures: https://ift.tt/2JYQA2I via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Lp6hWx
