I'm 24 y/o and recently moved cross country and my parents tagged along for the road trip. The first hotel in the middle of nowhere ND was going to cost $110 for the night, but the nice guy at reception asked if my parents had AARP. They did, but he didn't even wait to see their membership cards before knocking the price down to $80. The next night in a new hotel, I mentioned my parents have AARP to the receptionist and again she knocked $30 off the room, and they weren't even with me in the lobby! Proceeded to successfully get at least $20 off each night by asking for this discount as a young person without my elderly parents in the room with me. Will be mentioning this from now on when I travel.
