https://ift.tt/2l10GWH wife and I received my parents old furniture set recently when they updated theirs. It's about 30 years old and has been in their bedroom all my life, so has some sentimental value plus it's solid wood so it's expensive to replace.Unfortunately my mom enjoyed cleaning every week and was also the type of person to spray furniture polish directly on the furniture and rub it in instead of the rag. So there is a ton of white crusty buildup in all of the crevices. My wife wants to replace the furniture since it looks bad, so I'm trying to revive it to pass the wife test.So far I've tried with little results... Vinegar and water Dawn soap Goo gone Mineral spiritsUsing Straight rubbing alcohol I saw a little bit of it melt and I was able to get a chunk of crust off but it was a lot of work and a lot of time for a tiny piece.I also tried using some steam from my garment steamer. I think I saw some of it melt off, but it left the wood milky when it cooled down.. I hit the area with straight rubbing alcohol and the milkiness went away but the wood was left with little white specks and a different texture that I think is damaged just in a small area I tested.Does anybody know another technique to remove this buildup of what could be wax or silicone? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2sLVsmc
