My (27) fiancee (26) have been together 5 years. She does incredible social work and brings in around 40k per year. I work in biotech with a 130k salary and also have a pretty lucrative hobby.
She has 30k in student loan debt. I currently have 300k in savings / investments / retirement (100k in 401k and SEP Roth, can't move those).
Since we are going to be married, I want to start thinking about finances. I would like to pay off her remaining loans so we don't need to be paying interest for the next 10 years.
In the past, she has not accepted any of my offers to pay for vacations, and always wants to contribute her fair share. So I don't think she will accept an offer to pay for her loans either. It just seems pointless to pay interest if we don't have to.
Has anyone been in a situation like this? What is the best way to approach this? Thanks!
