I’m a moron as I’ve got my entire nest egg earning nothing.
Here’s my deal - Over the last 4 years I’ve gone from scraping by on 90K (SF Bay Area) to making really money. Total gross is nearly $270k. I’m spending about $48K a year and maxing my 401k. Leaves me able to save about $120K after taxes a year.
So - Yes I’m doing my best at my job to keep it, however... I’m in a experimental group inside of a giant blue chip company. We are spending money like you wouldn’t believe. So I give this project another 3 years tops.
Here’s my current plan...
- Move the bulk of my nest egg to a UBS Money market made up of municipal bonds. 2% return with nearly no risk. This fund didn’t move in 2008.
- Buy a small house in my old college town ($200-300k). $50-75k in down payment and fees. Finance at 15 years. I should be even on the monthly or cover another $100 a month.
- Save save save. Every time I get over $5k in additional savings, move it to UBS.
- Wait for the crash.
- Buy buy buy
