reposting. My links from my last post got corruptHey guys looking for some advice with my bathroom flooring before I continue. Thanks in advance for any input, I know this is such a tired topic. Current state of the bathroom flooring and a closeup: https://ift.tt/2rLIDqJ https://ift.tt/2L11rLi my current plan: Rip out the tile (check). Remove thin set. Clean up and patch any divets/dents in my cement backer board. Apply vinyl planks over the cement board. Call it a day. My bathroom is only about 50 square feet but it has taken me about 3 hours to get 20 sf of thinset up with a chisel and hammer. Some things I want to get some clarification on before I go out and rent a power chisel from Big Orange. All of my questions stem from this: Can I even reuse my cement backboard? I have heard three things. a. I can reuse it as is b. I need to put self leveling concrete on it c. that I should just rip out the cement boards and put in fresh plywood. 1. If I can reuse im assuming I will need to chisel the thinset plus use something to fill in the small cracks and divets in the floor. I think im gonna need a sander to get some of the trouble spots up. Sounds like a pain in the butt. 2. If I use self leveling or anything to put over the exiting thinset, how do I prep the flooring? Just get off as much thinset as possible? Or just say f it and throw it over what I have now. 3. Go with plywood. Can I just get a sledgehammer and bust out this floor to the frames? I like the thought of not having to worry about clearing off the TS. So here I am. Any insight from you smart people would be amazing. Maybe I should just ditch the vinyl plank flooring idea and just go with tiling? If I go with tiling can I just reapply thinset after I get most of it up? Im in Ohio if that will matter for any reason. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2rKbtYu
