I had the option to buy a really good TV with 60% of the price reduced. It was a good deal I found out about only three days ago, and I was stoked. But I started to get cold feet, but almost everyone I talked to encouraged me to get it.
Except for one friend who has a father with an Econ masters and who recently got an Econ degree too. He didn’t explain why it was wrong or a poor choice or even berate me one bit. He just asked me if I really needed it.
And I didn’t. My TV, while old, still works. It’s only 720p but I don’t even have any 4K devices and I won’t be buying any anytime soon either. The new TV was bigger but I don’t need that excess screen. I never have trouble watching movies or playing games.
So I’m saving the money I was going to throw away on the TV and helping buy my girlfriend a car, since hers is kaput. It’s a lot smarter ideal and is the bigger priority. I can’t believe what I was thinking.
But now I know I feel much better with the choice I made.
Tl;Dr: I had the opportunity to buy a TV for a 4th of it’s original price but I am instead giving that money to my girlfriend to help her buy a car.
Edit: I fixed the Tl;Dr:
And also,
I am not buying the car. I am giving her a tenth of what she has already saved up herself so I have a better piece of mind when she drives to work everyday. Maybe I worded that poorly, when I said I was helping buy her a car. I think it was decently clear that I am not buying her a car. The TV was not that expensive. I don’t know what kind of televisions you guys are buying to think that I could buy her an entire car.
