Hello,
I have a student loan that I was trying to pay off in bulk. Just to preface, the servicer changed from a previous company to this one I have in question.
I used their online payment services back in November 2017. Once I submitted the payment, I checked the payment history online, but it showed as failed. However, the balance page showed that the loan was paid in full and I had zero balance.
Thinking that something went wrong, I called their support and requested that they check to see if the payment went through. They said it seems to be paid off and suggested that I check with my bank. I checked and it seems the payment didn't go out from the bank.
I call them back and I guess they were also not sure what had happened with the system. They said they were going to check with their finance/accounting team to confirm if the payment was received or not.
From then until now, I've called them 6 times asking for updates, even tried escalating to managers only to be returned with that they are still waiting for response. While waiting, I've received the zero balance letter 2 weeks ago via email and physical letter from my College.
I'm honestly tired of trying to reach out and trying to make things right when the servicer themselves are not cooperating. Do I still have some legal obligations to pay off the loan despite having received this letter? Could I just take this letter as proof that I no longer have any obligations and that they couldn't return at some point in the future to try to retrieve the payments? I would do things right and pay off what I owe, but I'm not about to waste my time to try to plead that they investigate this issue.
