Maybe this should be in a sub like r/relationship_advice, but I'll give it a shot here first since you guys know how it is to be frugal.
I [F19] will be moving in with my boyfriend [19] in a couple of weeks, and now it's time to talk about how much we will be paying for stuff. The most common way to split food costs is obviously to straight up cut them in half... but we have grown up with completely different budgets, and therefore have very different standards. For example, I usually have a bowl of oatmeal and tea for breakfast. He usually has walnut bread straight from the bakery, multiple sorts of freshly squeezed juices, a multitude of really fine cheeses and sandwich spreads...
Until now, we've been living with our families who've been paying for most of the food. He really does care about good food and he's willing to pay for it, but I want to save my money instead of buying a crazily expensive walnut bread every other day.
Do any of you live with really non-frugal partners? How do you make it work? Do you have any advice on how to split food costs in a situation like this?
