So apparently, Hospitals can just make up whatever they want for charges now - even if they've given you a price and already collected Pre-Payment?
I had an MRI. They called for pre-payment of my portion prior to the procedure. I asked how much the MRI would be and was told that it would be about $2950 and that since I've met my insurance deductible, I owed 10% or $295.
Fine. Paid.
Today, 1-1/2 months later, I get a call that the $2950 was only an estimate and the procedure, a basic MRI, was actually well over $6000 and now they want more money from me.
What the actual fuck. How the hell do you give a patient a price and collect payment, then AFTER THE PROCEDURE IS DONE decide to more than double the price and demand more money?!
How is that any different than saying, "Your tire rotation is gonna be $20" then after you pay, and have the rotation done, and leave, they call you up a month later and say, "well, that was just an estimate, It was actually $50. you need to pay us another $30".
Is this even legal? What is going on? Can I fight it? Has anyone else heard of this happening?
It's almost like they didn't like how much insurance paid, so they jacked the bill up afterwards to squeeze me for more.
They also went all the way back to January when I had my back surgery, and jacked that bill up too requesting payment now.
