All the apartments I've been in had moldy bathrooms, paint peeling, etc. One time, I had to pick paint flakes out of my dinner cause the person upstairs slammed their door. There were literally dime sized sheets of mold coming off the bathroom walls. That's how things were...
A few years ago, finally purchased my own home and I said F it, I'm going all out! New sheet rock, restored the floors, fresh paint, new toilet seats, new sink, new bathtub, new tile, new grout, caulk, etc.
I know it's a small dream but I've always wanted a 100% clean bathroom.
Here's what I've learned after the last few years. Sealant sealant sealant. I purchased tile sealant and sealed all the tile/grout including the floors twice. Purchased the best paint I could and did 3 coats floor and ceiling. I installed a ceiling fan rated for 3x the size of my bathroom. There's a 5-15-30-60 minute timer switch that it's hooked up to. I cut an inch off the bottom of my bathroom door for ventilation. I also installed a 500 watt space heater that I made a wood surround for to keep it classy. It's on a timer. I always leave the fan going for 15 min after a shower. I figure it's a lot cheaper in the long run than having to re-do your bathroom 10-15 years later.
I hope this helps if you've ever wondered how to keep a bathroom in 100% new condition.
