I was thinking about this the other night and decided to post...
My poker group plays weekly and -- without saying so -- we've practically standardized on Bicycle playing cards. They are sturdier, last longer, and play smoother. They stand up to fingers stained with poker food, the varied heat and humidity of our northeastern coastal/island life, and these old codgers who are losing sensitivity in their hands and aren't too careful with how hard they grip the cards.
No, one deck won't last for life. But one deck of these will last for three lives of anything sold at the end-cap of your grocery store or pharmacy. And what I do when a deck is wearing out (too many creased cards or starting to become flimsy), I save it to use as spare cards to extend the life of the next deck. Doing this, I burn through decks at the rate of one every 18-24 months which is awesome.
Bicycle's QA must be great because the decks are consistently good for these qualities. Like I said, seven random guys have all independently learned to buy these instead of the cheaper decks. They're that much better.
