Over the years, time and time again, people have recommended the Steelcase Leap as a, for all intents and purposes, BIFL quality chair.

However, there are two versions that have been produced, V1 and the current V2. V1 was released in 1999 and, to my knowledge, discontinued when the V2 came out in 2006, so it was around for 7 years. This means that the newest V1 you can find is still 12 years old.

My question is, is trying to find a used Leap going to be limited to a V2 or is it still a safe bet to get a V1 even after so long? I know they're incredible chairs, but considering how any chair is constructed and what they're used for, is it a wise investment to get a V1 for not much less than a V2? Are the parts easily purchased on the used market/serviceable at all? I know people usually point to the extended warranty, but I'm pretty sure every V1 is out of warranty now, so that's not an option.

Case in point, I see used V1s for anywhere from $150 to $250 and V2s for $250-350, so it doesn't seem like that much more to get a chair that should be objectively better unless you're on a budget (like me). I could get a V1 right now for $150, but I'm worried that if I buy one this late in its lifetime, I won't get more than a few years before I'm looking for another chair yet again, which is the whole thing I'm trying to avoid with buying a high-end chair.
