[Auto] Yesterday my girlfriend was in a car accident where the person behind her failed to stop, tried swerving and sideswiped my girlfriends new car. Thankfully, an officer witnessed the accident and filed a police report. My girlfriend only took down her first and last name, as well as her phone number. When we attempted to call person who hit her, we discovered it was her dads car and dads insurance, and when asking to speak to said father, she hung up the phone and will not return calls. It's now day two, we are bringing the car to the dealership to get a quote on the repairs (only going to dealership because the car is fairly new and we want factory pant). What do we do next? We know First and Last name of both the person at fault and her father. We have the phone number for the person at fault. We have an accident ID number given by the police officer. I would not prefer to file with our insurance as the deductible is $500 and we do not want the premium to go up each month. Mostly it's pretty bad paint scratches, with a small dent in the drivers side rear door. We documented all the damage at the crash with our phone camera. We are fairly young, 23 and 21 respectively, and would really appreciate some advice on how to approach this.
Edit: we have progressive for insurance with full coverage and uninsured coverage.
