I am 21 years old living in CT. My mother set up an UTMA savings account for me 12 years ago. I've been working a full time job and saved a lot of money that I now wish to have full control of so I can move out and manage my living expenses between my checking and savings.

Currently, I'm unable to withdraw or transfer money from that account, only deposit. It was never an issue before - if I needed to withdraw my mother would just sign off - but my relationship with my mother has recently fallen out and I need to know how to proceed. Getting her to go to the bank with me and sign it off to me is out of the question.

I've looked online and it seems like the age in CT for UTMA accounts to be "transferred" to the minor is 21. Is this true? If so, how does it work? I called my bank last week and they said the signature of the custodian is required in order for me to have full control. Is this true even though I am 21? Is there any other method I have of gaining full control of this account?
