I'd love some input and advice for cooling our house this summer. Central air? Window ACs? The ACs that sit on the floor and roll around? Something else?
Background info: We live in central New York. It is very cold here for about half the year. But we do have some hot summer days. My husband and I are both home all day. We spend most of our time in the office and bedroom. The office is downstairs, the bedrooms is upstairs. We usually keep both doors closed, so both rooms can get stuffy. Both rooms are on the same side of the house. That side of the house gets the full afternoon and evening summer sun, so it gets extra hot. There is a gate to the backyard on that side of the house, and that side of the house is only a few feet away from the neighbor's house (and we don't get along). So we can't really plant anything there for shade. In the office, we have one of those portable air conditioners that sits on the floor and you stick the pipe out the window. I'd like to get another one for the bedroom for those extra hot days and stick with our window fans for the other days. I love open windows anyway. My husband thinks we should get central air. But I don't like the thought of cooling the whole house when we're really only in 2-3 rooms. What do you think? What would you do or what do you do to cool your house?
