I used to spend $250 per month on groceries, which involved idly shopping and picking up a ton of unnecessary junk. I realized I was overspending on food when I was throwing a good chunk of the stuff away that went bad. This month, I decided to change my budget around. I took out $200 cash for food this month. I designated $100 for groceries, and $100 for fast food because realistically, we all grab something quick on occasion. I only ended up spending $85 for groceries, and $20 on fast food so far. I had to sacrifice a lot of the processed foods and snacks I would've normally picked up, which saved me a ton of money. I also paid attention to what was on sale for the week. My plan is to roll over any remaining expenses from not eating out to my $100 grocery budget for the following month. And whatever I don't have to use for groceries for the following month will be thrown into savings. Overall, I'm pleased with myself as I used to be the type of person to constantly eat out and spend well over $100 per month. It was insane at one point. How do you guys handle your grocery budgets?
