I consider myself a frugal person, and I do my best to invest in items of high-quality so that in the long run it will save me money. About nine years ago, my wife and I bought a new queen mattress and box spring set. When we were selecting a mattress, I asked about warranties. The sales person told us that certain brands carry up to a 20 year warranty on the mattress. We ended up buying said mattress with a 20 year warranty. My wife, being the organized one in the relationship, kept everything: the Bill of Sale, receipts, warranty information, and all tags from the mattress.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago: our mattress had been sagging a little on one side and my wife brought up the 20 year warranty. Because it was nine years ago, I figured that maybe the warranty was just a gimmick. To my surprise and delight, my wife produced all of the aforementioned paperwork. I called the mattress company and stated I wanted to make a warranty claim. At first, the woman on the phone laughed when I told was nine years old. She told me that I’d need all of the paperwork and original tags— I had everything! I was emailed a claim form and was directed to take photos of the mattress. I scanned and emailed everything off to the company.

Today, the mattress company contacted me and told me that they would be replacing my mattress at no cost! They’re giving me a credit in the amount of our last purchase to select a new mattress, which is great because that purchase included the box spring. Now I have $967.00 to put toward a new mattress! The best part is, our toddler can now use the old one because she’s so light that the slight sagging wouldn’t be felt by her.

Tl;dr— I got a 9 year old mattress replaced for free because we kept all of the paperwork. Sure beats dropping a grand on a new one!
